Potato Creek, November 2004
About the photos. We took the writing group on a weekend getaway to Potato Creek, near South Bend, last November. Chris and I bitterly read through Dan's meandering novel and I kicked some serious ass in Trivial Pursuit. The weather was gray and cold, but a good November cold, the kind that craves long hikes and crunchy fallen leaves and cool creek beds. We got some limited but good hiking in, which the pictures show. Dan built an enormous fire in the middle of the cabin while every heat register was on high.
The second day the hot water quickly dissipated and I ate far too many of Chris's pure sugar snack stash, but Dan did not pull any major pranks. It was a good trip for me, well timed and much needed, surrounded by good friends and much laughter.
