I have loved baseball for all of my twenty-six years and have always struggled to find the right words to convey the old, pastoral, simple things about the game that make it worthy of such devotion and emotion. Today I found a quote about baseball from a former commissioner of baseball and the father of one of my favorite actors, Paul Giamatti.

"It's designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything is new again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops, and leaves you to face the fall alone."-A. Bartlett Giamatti
