I started a new story tonight and had one of those marathon writing sessions where you can't stop the words from coming at you. I wanted to call my uncle but couldn't. The story demanded I continue. I wrote 2300 words in about three hours. I don't know how all of it is, but some of it is damn good.
This is the first new writing in too long. I have waited for a new idea to take root but nothing did, so I kept reading books and waiting, tinkering with old stories until the muse visited me again tonight. Where had she been? We danced beautifully together tonight and now I'm so spent I can barely keep my eyes open or muster the energy to type though it is only 9:43 P.M.
Here's a little taste of what's inspired me lately, a quote so dead on with the current time it is utterly terrifying when you consider the source:
"Naturally, the common people don't want war, but after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country."
- Herman Goering, speaking at the Nuremberg Trials after WWII
