Over Labor Day weekend Randy came up and we tried to find some adventure for a few days. He dropped off all my boxes, gave me a bike, bought me a few things from R.E.I., and helped me learn how to navigate in nature. I made sure he got sick eating lots and lots of dried fruit and indigestible seeds.

We went to the coast first, to Ecola State Park, and hiked nearly 13 or 14 miles, stopping just short of Seaside. The pictures below verify the cold temperatures and heavy moisture we slopped through, though it proved great hiking weather. A heavy, cool vapor lay over the water for much of the morning and drifted over us and through the trees as the day progressed. It saturated the leaves, the ground, but not our spirits; and though it occasionally kept the ocean from sight, it left the trail clear and mostly void of people, and our laughter died away in the those low-hanging clouds.
