"the world is made for people blessed without self-awareness" - Bull Durham.
those who go through life without knowledge of themselves do seem to grab more of that brass ring everyone tries to get their fingers on. i notice people driving. drivers rarely think about what another motorist might do, only what they want to do. "I'm not going fast enough, I'll pass in the other lane, I need to get over to exit, I have to turn right up ahead, Can I get over, Why won't this #$*!&@ move faster, Why am I always surrounded by horrible drivers," etc. The list goes on. We don't consider the possible reasons for a slow driver ahead of us, or causes for that traffic jam, or what the person in the middle lane is doing, or anything else for that matter. This is a tiny sample size, given the highways I frequent during the week, and I see that. However, if I may generalize a trend I noticed on the road to life in general and people everywhere, the people who get the most in life are the ones willing to take it.
go after what you want with reckless abandoned and think not of feelings, morality, ethics, grace, dignity, or your effect on others. instead, think only of the rewards, the gains, the prize, the pot of gold. it isn't in the journey, it's how to make the journey as short as possible to reach the destination, because only there does one find the windfall. you have to be willing to disregard everyone, even yourself, to step on people and break oaths if it means achieving your goals. self-awareness stifles the will, the drive to succeed because it puts a spectre of doubt in the mind. it is no coincidence that those we consider successful are often times described as arrogant, egotistical, self-absorbed.
there is no room for considerate people on the step-ladder to success. gee I hope I didn't mix my metaphors too badly.
